How do you say I love you?

The rule at our house is that each holiday gets to be celebrated without getting interrupted by the next holiday. For example, we decorate for Thanksgiving all the way up until Black Friday. While all of you are racing through the malls to get the best deals, I am at home taking down the browns and creams and getting ready for some good old fashioned Christmas decorating. Once the holiday passes, it's free game. Now that Nikson's birthday has been given adequate attention, we can start thinking about Valentine's Day.
As most of you may know, I married someone that thinks Valentine's Day is a total joke. Aren't I lucky?! He really hates anything that has been commercialized. If I want Valentine's Day we will have to move to the Amazon where there is no access to the world. Bon Voyage! I did have a nice childhood though, my mom was really great about teaching us the importance of showing love to each other and I am determined to help my children see the beauty in showing love to those that come into their lives. Little notes are fun and can mean the world to family and friends. Mr. Bishop will soften up. You should see him with Nikson. Slowly melting. As for me and my lack of, I have resorted  to others to show the love...not like that sillies, like really cute cards and printables!

TinyPrints is no exception. They have every holiday covered, even Valentine's Day with the absolute sweetest designs and brightest colors. I loved celebrating Valentine's Day at school because it was the only time you could get away with giving the cutest boy the cutest valentine and him not really get it.

Ooh secrets secrets.

What is your favorite Valentine's Day tradition?

  1. Sometimes I think Chad and Blake should have married each other. Here's a fun story for you. Chad and I started dating in March of 2010 so last Valentine's when we were engaged was our first Valentine's together. I was super excited and bought Chad a present online a week or so before. When I said "I ordered your present today" He said "Oh my gosh I did too!" and so I was super excited. On Valentine's day I got his present all ready and made sugar cookies from scratch and hand cut them to say I love you. We went out to dinner and when it was time to open presents he told me mine hadn't come yet. But it turns out that I had ordered his present from the same place he ordered mine... So I started thinking it was really weird that mine didn't come in time and his did. When I asked him about it he was like "I HATE VALENTINES DAY!" and it turns out he had actually ordered my present like the day before Valentines and not when he told me he did. Umm...so yeah... I have no expectations for any future V-day's. You and I can just celebrate together!

  2. Ps. Sorry for the novel. Also, my intent isn't to bash Chad in that comment, just to say I can appreciate having a hubby who isn't so into certain holidays! :)

  3. Trevor's birthday is on Valentine's Day. Lucky me right? He pretty expects that the day be all about him (after all it IS his birthday!) He usually gets me some chocolate or something on the way home buuuuut it would be futile to expect anything lavish. You are not alone miss! :)

  8. We got engaged at Christmas. Russell worked nights so on Valentine's day I got a cute basket, filled it with bacon, eggs, juice, muffins, cookies that I had made, etc and took them to his house and put them on the porch, knocked, and hid. He came out and found me, we kissed and such, went inside, made breakfast and ate. After that he said, "Let's go shopping." We went to Sears. I hesitated at the jewelry counter, perfume counter, clothes wondering what he was going to buy for me. We went straight to the mens section where he picked up a pair of jeans for himself, bought them and we walked out of the store. We got in the car and I started crying. (I was such an emotional wreck!) It took several years, but one year he brought home a big heart shaped box of chocolates from Cummings!!!! I totally didn't expect anything as that's what I had gotten for years. I made such a big deal about it that now he always gets some chocolates on Valentines. He learned, but it took years. Don't give up!:D

  9. I don't do much for the kids for Valentine's Day, but I made some paper hearts and wrote their names and "I Love You's" on them and taped them to the frond door each year so they would see them and know that I loved them. I even used the same ones for years. Totally non-commercial;).
